VIENNA, 29 September 2023 - It is with sadness that the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) announces the recent passing of Mr. Herbert Schaepe, former Secretary of the Board.
Mr. Schaepe joined the Board's secretariat in 1981 and served as Secretary of the International Narcotics Control Board from 1991 to 2004. He entered into service with the United Nations in 1977, serving with the United Nations Refugee Agency in Argentina from 1977 to 1979, and with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in Burkina Faso from 1979 to 1981.
Mr. Schaepe was recognized for his contribution to international drug control, and made a valuable contribution to the work of the Board.
A national of Germany, Herbert Schaepe was born in 1949 and is survived by his spouse, Irmgard, and their daughter, Svea.
The Board extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends.
