INCB mission to Uruguay

Vienna, 17 October 2023 - From 2 to 6 October 2023, the Board undertook a mission to Uruguay to discuss drug control policies and implementation of the international drug control treaties with senior Government officials and other stakeholders. The last mission to the country took place in 2015. 

The mission was led by  Prof. Cesar Arce, First Vice-President of the Board, who was accompanied by Ms. Juliana Erthal-Williamson, Drug Control Officer.

While in Montevideo, the INCB delegation held consultations with various counterparts, including the Pro-secretary of the Presidency and President of the National Drug Control Board, Dr. Rodrigo Ferrés; Sub-Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nicolás Albertoni; Secretary General of the National Drug Control Board and President of the Cannabis Regulation and Control Institute (IRCCA), Dr. Daniel Radío; Sub-Secretary of Interior, Dr. Guillermo Maciel; Sub-Secretary of Public Health, Mr. Jose Luis Satdjian; Attorney General, Dr. Juan Gomez; Assistant Director of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, Mr. Sergio Vazquez; and representatives of the Special Commission on Addictions of the national Parliament.

The delegation also held meetings with non-governmental organizations working in the field of drug and substance use and visited the treatment centre "Portal Amarillo".

The findings of the mission will be considered by the Board at its 138th session in November 2023.
